BRKSEC-2101
Deploying Web Security
Wednesday, February 1: 13:30

This was a disappointing session for me as it was more client focused than I thought it would be. The presentation of the session was excellent. the topic areas covered were, Web security with IronPort, Web security with Scansafe and Secure Mobility.

I was hoping to gain more of an insight into Ironport and Scansafe but the content was more focused on the clients interaction with the products rather than the products themselves.

There was a considerable amount of time spent on the WCCP protocol (Web Cache Communication Protocol). Some of this was of interest especially when it was explained how the ASA handled WCCP, though I am still unclear how the ASA supports/emulates GRE, further research required.

There were some excellent gotchas explained when configuring the 3560 for example. All from the personal experience of the presenter, the grey hair reference I could well believe.

Some good demos were used to reinforce the material being presented, none that I thougth I would return to, read on. The the room unusually was half empty and those who were there seemed very familar with the content.

When I got back home in the evening and was about to type the notes of the day onto this website, no web access. A few minutes of turning routers on and off I focused my attention to the client. Problem solved, a proxy my son had installed and deinstalled had left its proxy scripts in the web browser. I knew exactly what is was I had seen a screen shot just hours before, a worthwhile session :-).
